Attending #blogher11 as @salsasensations delegate: Taking advantage of opportunites #salsablogher

I consider myself to be a fairly ambitious person. However, in the world of blogging, sometimes it is hard to make it on the radar of worthwhile companies.  Ranks, followers, and so many more factors go into play on whether a brand will consider you.  When I found out Salsa Sensations Blogher 11 delegate contest, I thought what do I have to lose.  I had convinced myself I would go next year to Blogher until I heard about the contest.  As many of you know, after what seemed like an eternity, I was chosen to represent Salsa Sensations. I was ecstatic and then fear set in.  I had to start finding flights that worked, deciding what to wear, what did I want to do when I actually got there, and wondering if I could handle the intimidation of attending BlogHer has a newbie. Day 1:  Of course, the morning of our flight to San Diego my stomach was in knots.  While there are parts of my life that are quite flexible, I tried to micromanage many details of BlogHer.  The setback: I had never … [Read more...]

#Blogher11: How I am preparing for my first conference: Advice? #salsacraving

blogher

I am just barely past my 6 mos. blogoversary.  I am amazed of what I have accomplished.  Such as, who knew I would be attending BlogHer 2011 courtesy of Salsa Sensations.  As Salsa Sensations BlogHer delegate, I am receiving a sponsorship to BlogHer 2011.  Without Salsa Sensations generosity, BlogHer would not be a possibility for me. Preparing for something full of so many possibilites can be over-whelming at times. These are several things I have learned from observations and assumptions: ~Packing:  I am a minimalist.  I don't like to take more than I need ever and rarely go beyond a single carry-on bag (shared by 2).  However, I have been told that swag may get in the way of my plans.  I am now checking a large suitcase  that will be storing an extra carry-on filled with gluten free food (just in case :)). Then, I am carrying on a suitcase plus laptop bag.  Yes, I am already packed.  It is my least favorite part, so I like to get that out of the way early. ~Supplies: … [Read more...]

@NaturalizerShoe “Shoe to the Rescue” at blogher? Yes, please! #Naturalizer

naturalizer_kiril

As a mom of 3, my fashion sense has always revolved around being stylish yet functional.  My wardrobe falls in this in-between category of classic and bohemian chic that I have collected over the years from thrift stores, boutiques, and mass merchants.  While I am a fan of shoes, my mom taught me early that comfort is key.  I have always loved to stretch my money further.  As a result, I won't purchase a pair of shoes that aren't comfortable, because odds are I won't get my money's worth.  High heels are fun since I am petite, but not worth the effort if they hurt my feet. During college, I was told for my professional life to splurge on a pair of heels and an actual suit.  I remember searching and searching for the perfect, comfortable heels.  It is hard sometimes finding comfortable shoes with personality.  I ended up falling in love with a pair of Naturalizer pumps.  I felt like a real grown-up walking around in heels and my feet did not hurt at the end of the day!  Thanks to … [Read more...]
