Healthy living and technology is a big part of our household. Our family makes a point to stay active with hiking, sports, races, etc… One of the things the kids see is how we use technology like our phones to entertain, track, etc… while we stay active. Phones aren’t just for calling anymore. We have been going back and forth on when is the appropriate age to get our oldest his first phone. I didn’t get my first phone until I was 15 because I had an unreliable car. However, with all the training our oldest son has been doing, we started to think this would be a nice incentive for all his hard work. Come see how $49.88 PLUS Plan from Walmart Family Mobile, powered by T-Mobile helps our middle schooler with his healthy living from communication to active lifestyle tools.
During our recent Walmart trip, we decided to see what all the fuss was with Walmart Family mobile…

While we are using guidelines to help teach him to limit his use, kids don’t always understand how service/data fees can add up quickly. The $49.88 PLUS Plan from Walmart Family Mobile is powered by T-Mobile. It includes unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 15GB of 4G LTE† then 2G*. It made the decision to switch easier when there is no Contract, no activation fees, or no late fees. Mobile phone bills with unexpected fees can be scary. This option gives us more control to save money!
Steps to use Walmart Family Mobile to encourage healthy living this summer:
- My kids’ situation with a therapist mom might be a little different. I don’t only want to know what my kids are doing but how they are feeling. This is not always automatic even from kid to kid. This is built on a foundation of creating an open line of communication. For a while, I have been talking about how things would inevitably change when our oldest became a teenager. Teenagers act out. Teenagers sometimes close themselves off. I knew that if I wanted to keep the lines of communication open I needed to start early encouraging him to share and talk to me no matter how trivial it might seem. Things might not always be as all inclusive as they are now but we have created an open environment to communicate as much or little as they choose. Simple ways that you can establish this is regular texting like we do with pictures of our cats or inside jokes. It is those little funny habits that can have an impact on creating an invitation to reach out when they need to.
- Make the extended family apart of this process as well! One of the first things that I helped Dylan do was add all his grandparents, aunts/uncle, and cousins phone numbers as well. This will further continue their bond by allowing him to communicate with them and share things that he may or may not feel comfortable sharing with us.
Take Physical Activity to the Next Level
My boys have been watching over the years on how I use my phone to encourage healthy habits.
Mom, How many steps do you have today?
How far have you went?
How fast did you go?
With his unlimited talk, text, and data, Dylan can now track his runs to see how far he has gone, how fast he ran, and improvements from training session to training session just like he has watched us do. It helps him establish his own healthy living patterns to teach him lifelong healthy living choices.
While the first option is not something to do on your phone, this is an added bonus…
- customers on the $49.88 PLUS Plan will receive a free VUDU◊ movie rental credit valued at $7.00 each time they renew their service. While this doesn’t involve the use of the phone, this is a nice bonus each month with this plan! We picked a movie out together to watch during family time on our smart tv. You can also watch your free movie on ROKU(R), Chromecast(R), VUDU Spark(TM), or other compatible devices.
- Find a time that kids can just be kids! Let them pick out games that let them relax and/or learn a new skill in a fun way.
Now that we have shown you how we use the $49.88 PLUS Plan from Walmart Family Mobile, powered by T-Mobile to encourage healthy family choices, I would love to hear how you would use the unlimited talk, text, and data in your household to encourage healthy living!
