Spring Garden Season has Begun

This weather has not been the best. We have ranged from the 70s to snow the next day and back to warm weather. However, when I look up at the blooming trees and daffodils, all I want to do is begin my garden. When my gardening desire kicks in I start the seeds inside or in the greenhouse when it feels safe.

What do you love to do?

Finding a hobby that you love is important. As a mom, I feel like we often put our needs last. Gardening is a way for me to put my passion, mental well-being, and physical health as a priority. Edibles have become a big part of our garden to encourage my kids to have healthy values as wells. We eat a lot of salads in our house. However, I have become a huge fan of homemade salads. I will get a variety of greens to switch it up. Nothing is better than a salad straight from the garden!

This is year 2 of gardening at our first home. I have been gardening for years but at rental homes. The thought of creating a forever garden really makes me happy. I am a perfectionist. I use to feel like a failure when certain plants didn’t succeed. I have realized that I am just better at growing some plants than others. I have realized that some plants just thrive better in certain conditions than others. Hopefully, by year 3, I will have an established garden plan that meets both the visual and health components that are also self-sustaining. Low maintenance is going to be my friend as I venture on to start my Master’s degree soon!

I enjoy creating both a beautiful and functional garden. Gardening is therapeutic for me. I wander around looking at the fruits of my labor.

We also started some flowers for the garden!

I can’t wait to share more as we get deeper into gardening season.

I just started some tomatoes, eggplant, and carnival peppers. Growing our own food is a big part of what I love about gardening. We have certain foods that we eat often that have become garden staples like lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers. However, I love trying to produce to test my gardening skills but also to enjoy my boys to try new foods.

I hope to finally plant a garden this year, it’s something my family has always planned to do but seems as though we wait to late into the season to really get anything into the ground.

We love repurposing and gardening. We have started plants in eggshells with our daughter as part of a school project and we like to keep a garden of our own in the backyard. Great tips!
