Making Reindeer Food and playing Rise of the Guardians as a family #CouchCritic #CBias

The holidays are over. We didn’t get to spend as much quality family time together this year on the actual Christmas Day since we were expecting a snowstorm & I had surgery scheduled for the day after Christmas. To be honest, my Christmas Day of silence and clear liquids was the most depressing Christmas ever. . So, with the release of the Wii video game Rise of the Guardians, I figured it was a good time to use up those marked down candy canes and enjoy some time together doing what we love…gaming and cooking!

With us not having cable or high speed internet for streaming, we have been using Redbox for a while. Did you know that you can now rent video games at Redbox? Most rental stores charge $3-$4 a night for video game rentals so $2/night at Redbox is a great way to save money. I use online reservations so I know that the movie or game we want will be available.

Reindeer Food is simple to make with so many easy tasks that everyone can do! {To see more pictures of us shopping, creating, and gaming click here for our complete google+ album}

1. Crush Candy Canes

2. Melt the Vanilla Chips

3. Pour Chex in large bowl

4. Pour in half of Crushed Candy Canes

5. Add in melted vanilla chips

6. Spread out mixture

7. Sprinkle on the rest of crushed candy canes

~20 (1/2 cup) servings~

Supplies

  • 6 cups Rice Chex
  • 1 bag of Vanilla Chips
  • 7 Candy Canes

Directions

  1. Line cookie sheet with foil or waxed paper.
  2. Crush candy canes
  3. Place cereal in large bowl. Then, stir in half the crushed peppermint candy.
  4.  In microwavable bowl, microwave white vanilla baking chips uncovered on High about 1 minute 30 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until chips can be stirred smooth.
  5. Pour over cereal; toss to evenly coat. Spread mixture in single layer on cookie sheet. Immediately sprinkle with remaining candy. Let stand until set, about 20 minutes. Gently break up coated cereal. Store in airtight container.
Now time to test out the video game
Rise of the Guardians video game brings our children’s imagination to life where their heroes such as Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and more are out to protect all children from evil forces.
Reaction: The graphics are vibrant and entertaining. Overall, the game was quick to learn and fun. My 3 boys range in ages from 3-7 and this game kept their interest. However for the  older crowd (or more experienced gamers/parents)  it lacked challenge. Couch Critic Rating: 4 out of 5
