King Arthur Flour Gluten Free Review & Giveaway

With the gluten free standards in limbo at the moment, those requiring gluten free diets need to be much more aware of the companies providing them their food.  There are many established companies taking the plunge to gluten free and King Arthur Flour is one of them.  If you are familiar with the gluten free standards, you know that the guidelines are unclear.  With guidelines unclear, companies are able to claim their products are gluten free.  King Arthur Flour is a company who has gone through the effort to have Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) certify their line of gluten free products.  On May 4, 2011, King Arthur Flour was one of the companies that attended Gluten Free Food Labeling Summitt 2011 (visit 1in133 to learn about this event).  I love that a company like King Arthur Flour, that is known for being a whole wheat flour seller, is making such an impact on the gluten free world! About their Gluten Free Products They offer eight versatile mixes that … [Read more...]

Salsa Sensations vs the others: are all salsas created equal? #salsacraving

For almost a month, I have been showcasing Salsa Sensations in an attempt to represent them at Blogher 2011 (see video submission here).  Talk can be cheap when not backed by actual proof, because we all have our own version of the truth.  Today I am going to give you a look inside a bottle of a store brand salsa , a brand name salsa, and Salsa Sensations that are all found at a local Wal-Mart.  The health content is based on what the bottle states, the taste & quality is my opinion, and the value is a combination of both.  The reality is that not all salsas are created equal. The store brand When first glancing at the jar, the words "all natural" catch my eye immediately.  In my world natural means minimal processing, fresh ingredients, and the likes not natural flavoring.  When making natural, fresh foods, adding natural flavoring should not be necessary.  It was a bit of a surprise that the tomatoes come from concentrated tomatoes along with diced tomatoes further down in … [Read more...]

Bosley Professional Strength Women’s Hair System Review & Giveaway

When we think of thinning or balding, images immediately go to men's receding hairlines and beyond.  However, since our medication, illness, infection, hormones or chemicals can affect our hair growth, women too suffer from thinning hair.  Auto-immune disorders can cause thinning hair.  When I was younger my hair was very thin.  Due to untreated Celiac Disease, I was malnourished and nutrient-deprived that provides an unfriendly atmosphere for hair growth.  Women normally notice their thinning hair on the top third to one half of the scalp, which can be more prominent when pullling the hair back.  Thankfully Bosley known for being "The World's Most Experienced Hair Restoration Expert" has non-invasive options to help you stop hair loss and  restore what you have lost! About Professional Strength For Women Specially formulated to nourish and invigorate your hair and scalp, our 5-step Professional Strength for Women includes Hair Regrowth Formula Treatment, a 2% Minoxidil topical … [Read more...]

{Memorial Day worthy} Marinated Grilled Chicken Recipe

I was doing some research on where Memorial day originated and it is amazing how national holidays stray from their original intent.  Memorial Day  is a day of remembering those that have died while serving in the American Military. Somehow Memorial Day is more known for a leisurely weekend that allows us the opportunity to enjoy gathering with friends and family.  While you are enjoying your leisurely weekend, please take the time to remember what Memorial Day is all about. Here is a grilled chicken  recipe to enjoy this Memorial Day... Marinated Grilled Chicken Recipe This recipe is relatively easy and worth the wait on marinating.  The flavors go well with typical cookout side dishes.  I enjoy serving it with homemade mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. Ingredients: whole chicken (4-5 pounds) 3/4 c. apple cider vinegar 1/2 c. oil 1 TBSP McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Chicken 1 TBSP each of Black Pepper, Salt, Chili Powder, and … [Read more...]

As if you need more reasons to eat salsa, May happens to be National Salsa Month!  According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, salsa is defined as a spicy sauce of tomatoes, onions, and hot peppers. What makes salsa great is how versatile it is from eating it as a dip to adding it to your favorite recipes, salsa is a great compliment to many foods.  As many of you know, I am in the running to be Salsa Sensations 2011 Blogher delegate.  I am so excited at the possibility of representing such a great company at Blogher as well as to take my blog to the next level.  Salsa Sensations is a company providing salsas that are "simply fruits & vegetables from our farms to your table".  Getting great-tasting homemade salsa requires work that not all people have the time or the patience.  Salsa Sensations has created the perfect salsa from mild to hot that allows you to provide healthy options (2 TBSP is 10 calories) for your loved ones. Projectables night light Review & Giveaway (8 winners)

I had planned to put this post up yesterday.  Dealing with the aftermath of the Joplin, MO tornado where friends & family are located, I just couldn't put up a post when it seemed so shocking to imagine the losses they have suffered.  I spent the day holding my babies tightly and preparing for the possibility we will be receiving bad weather tonight.  Complete devastation has a way of reminding us how important those little things are.  On that note, bedtime is such an important part of our day.  We spend most of the day running around playing that at the end of the day those bedtime rituals are treasured. My youngest, Elliott,  is adorable when he says "night night" to everything from his brothers to the artwork.  I love finding new things to incorporate into bedtime like Projectables Night Lights that leave me feeling like I have offered my kids something to make bedtime that much more peaceful &/or entertaining. About Projectables Transform your room with the … [Read more...]

As word is spreading the nation, I am sure you have heard about the devastation that happened yesterday in Joplin, MO.  The pictures & video of Joplin is just heartbreaking thinking about all the lives and belongings that have been damaged.  The first chopper footage of Joplin had me in tears seeing all the places that used to be. Joplin is near & dear to me since my hometown is near Joplin, family/friends live and work there.  While contacting many by phone is not happening, remember that texting or sending facebook/twitter messages are still being received by some.  I am spreading the word about ways you can help no matter where you are! How To Volunteer Right now Joplin is over-whelmed with volunteers, so they have requested that no one self-deploy to the area; however, they are still in need trained EMT, Nurses, Doctors and anyone that is trained in search and rescue.If you are outside the Ozarks but you are looking to volunteer, you can call 1-800-427-4626. #Carrabbas: Find your Signature Pasta Dish {fake baked gf ziti recipe}

When we went gluten free, my first thought was what if I never have pasta again.  My guilty pleasure has always been pasta.  If you don't eat gluten free, let me tell you there are a lot of bad gluten free pasta options.  Many of them just taste bad or dissolve when stirred not exactly what I was used to.  I managed to find a gluten free pasta I like and adapt it to my old pasta recipes.  As for eating out that adds even more limitations, so dishes made at home started to overcompensate for missing out on those well-loved Italian restaurants.  As more and more people are finding out they need to be gluten free, I am so grateful that Italian restaurant's like Carrabba's offers a gluten free menu. About Carrabba's Carrabba's offers homemade without the work from their homemade pasta, daily made sauces, and gluten free menu what is not to love!  Their casual atmosphere is great for any occasion from family time to date night.  To learn more about Carrabba’s, please … [Read more...]

Carapelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil {herb-infused oil recipe}

While I am working on getting my body ready for our anniversary in Mexico, I have been doing research on ways to take our healthy lifestyle to the next level beyond working out with RevAbs.  Monounsaturated fats are heart-healthy fats that have been found to lead to lowered body weight.  Olive oil is a great source of monounsaturated fats. About Carapelli In 1893, in the quaint town of Montevarchi, Italy, a man named Constantino Carapelli began selling olive oil, founding a family business that has become an Italian tradition. Constantino’s dream was to move his olive oil and grain business to the beautiful city of Florence. Forty-seven years later, his dream became a reality, when his sons constructed warehouses in the Florentine suburb of Rifredi and supplied olive oil from the family oil mill at Ponte a Ema.The newly built warehouses were destroyed during World War II, but the Carapelli family forged ahead. They rebuilt the structures and started anew. The hard work paid off, … [Read more...]

Manic Monday Mixer Hop: Salsa Sensations Make-ahead Chimi Recipe #salsacraving

Sorry for the break from Manic Monday Mixer life has been really busy since  the move to the new site.  On top of the move, we have been dealing with another child showing symptoms of Celiac Disease.  It is difficult thinking about starting over again with a toddler with gluten issues just when Hunter is old enough to understand the situation.  As I have mentioned before, I find make-ahead meals are great way to add convenience without sacrificing nutrition.  When dealing with unexpected situations, gluten contaminations, the good, the bad, whatever comes up, I rely on make-ahead to save the day.  If I were unable to cook, I think my kids would have quesadillas & grilled cheese everyday (I love you for your effort!).  However, with make-ahead cooking, these meals can last anywhere from 1 month to 6 months in the freezer with a food sealer.  With all that being said, I  have entered the Salsa Sensations "Will Blog  for Salsa?" Salsa Sensations  Blogher 2011 Contest (feel free to … [Read more...]
